Both processes develop color negative film, but they are designed as complete systems with different chemistry, times, temperatures, and handling. Similar-looking film cassettes do not mean the processes are interchangeable.
What rem-jet does
Rem-jet is a dark backing used on many motion-picture camera films. It helps control halation, protects the film during transport, and provides antistatic properties. In ECN-2 processing, dedicated prebath and mechanical steps soften and remove it before the later stages.
Rem-jet film should not enter a standard C-41 machine without the lab's approval. The backing can contaminate equipment and other film. Tell the lab exactly what stock you have, including whether a reseller removed the rem-jet before loading it into 35mm cassettes.
Why chemistry changes the result
The color developer is not identical, and the intended contrast is different. Motion-picture negative film is designed to be part of a cinema workflow that includes printing, scanning, and color grading. Correct ECN-2 processing gives the film the baseline its manufacturer designed.
Cross-processing an ECN-2 film in C-41 chemistry can produce usable images in some cases, but shifts in contrast, color, grain, and density are possible. It should be treated as an experiment, not as an equivalent substitute for the correct process.
Scanning ECN-2 negatives
A cinema negative may look flatter than a consumer still-film scan before grading. That lower-contrast starting point can preserve room for color work. Ask for a neutral scan without a heavy preset, then set black point, white balance, contrast, and saturation in that order.
Scanner profiles built for common C-41 films may not produce the intended color immediately. A strong green, cyan, or magenta cast is not automatically a processing failure; check the negative and request a neutral conversion before drawing a conclusion.

For an important job, test one roll through the exact lab and scanning workflow first. Keep notes on exposure index and filtration, then repeat before making creative adjustments.

A reseller's simplified instruction should not replace the film manufacturer's process information or the receiving lab's requirements.
