How to Use the Polaroid Go Self-Timer

The self-timer turns the photographer from the missing person into part of the memory. The difficult part is not the countdown; it is preparing the frame before it starts.

How to Use the Polaroid Go Self-Timer — Berlin Photo Studio

The simple idea: Place the Go on a stable level surface, frame with extra space, activate self-timer, move into position and keep everyone still through the exposure.

Prepare before pressing

  • Check battery and remaining film.
  • Choose a stable surface or suitable support.
  • Keep the camera level.
  • Estimate focus distance and flash reach.
  • Remove bright distractions behind the group.

Activate the Go self-timer

  1. With the camera switched on, hold the flash button for about two seconds to activate the self-timer.
  2. Frame the photograph and press the shutter button.
  3. Move into position during the nine-second countdown and stay still for the exposure.

These steps follow Polaroid’s Go self-timer instructions. Check the manual supplied with your camera if its controls differ.

Leave breathing room

Small framing errors feel larger on Go film. Leave some space around heads and sides rather than filling every millimetre. The front selfie mirror helps at close range but is only an approximate guide.

Use light intentionally

Face a window or open sky. Indoors, let the flash work and keep the group compact. Do not place half the group much farther away than the other half.

After the shutter

Wait until the exposure and ejection are complete before grabbing the camera. Protect the developing picture from strong light.
