Frequently asked questions

Where should I pack photographic film when flying?

Keep all undeveloped film in your carry-on baggage inside a transparent pouch. Do not place it in checked luggage.

Should exposed film also be protected from airport scanners?

Yes. Exposed film remains undeveloped and light-sensitive until it has been processed.

When should travel film be developed?

Develop it promptly after the trip, especially when it has been exposed to heat, humidity or repeated airport screening.

Travel guidance should be checked again before every journey because airport equipment and inspection policies change. Last reviewed: July 2026.
