From Naples to Berlin

Photography became a way to understand life.

Emiliano Vittoriosi was born in Naples in 1990 and raised in Sant’Anastasia. He has worked professionally across photography and design since 2007, while his formal photographic training began in Naples in 2008. Over time, his practice grew through portraiture, reportage, black-and-white images, editorial design and creative direction.

After moving to Berlin in 2015, the city became both a home and an open notebook. His work observes people, neighbourhoods and small gestures that can easily disappear. For Emiliano, a photograph is not only an image. It is a meeting, a piece of memory and a bridge between one person and another.

His curiosity moves across photography, art, publishing, music, cinema, philosophy, communication and personal growth. These worlds continually enter his work and keep it changing.

The greatest inspiration

“Kali reminds me why we create: to leave something honest, alive and full of possibility.”

His daughter Kali is a central inspiration in his life. She brings him back to curiosity, play and the courage to try before knowing the answer. That same energy lives inside Berlin Photo Studio: mistakes are part of learning, ideas deserve room, and creativity should never be guarded by the word “impossible”.

Berlin Photo Studio

A studio built as a playground for people and ideas.

Emiliano founded Berlin Photo Studio in Berlin-Wedding to bring the many parts of photography under one roof: an independent analog film lab, photo studio, shop, darkroom, workshop space, publishing platform and community meeting point.

His role moves continuously between photographer, art director, teacher, designer and entrepreneur. He develops film, creates portraits, builds visual systems, organises collaborations and events, teaches workshops and keeps redesigning the space around the people who use it.

The goal is simple: make photography human, accessible and alive. Customers should not feel judged for asking questions or making mistakes. They should leave with more confidence, more knowledge and perhaps a new idea they did not have before entering.

Creative philosophy

The border is not a wall. It is a place to begin.

Emiliano’s approach is based on movement: test, observe, learn and rebuild. Berlin Photo Studio changes constantly because a creative place should behave more like a living organism than a finished showroom.

He is especially interested in connecting people and helping them recognise their own potential. The best collaboration is not simply an exchange of services; it is a spark that allows both sides to make something that could not exist alone.

Personal projects & archive

The commissioned image is only one room in a much larger house.

Alongside commercial photography, Emiliano has built a long personal archive made of documentary observation, street photography, portraiture, conceptual work, music culture and independent publishing.

Projects often grow slowly and return in chapters. They follow cities, communities, bodies, rituals and the traces people leave behind. In 2019 he founded the Beex Project, using photography, zines, exhibitions, podcasts and collaboration as tools for bringing different voices into the same space.

Learning, exhibitions & publishing

A practice shaped by classrooms, streets, galleries and printed pages.

Emiliano’s education continued through photography courses and workshops in Naples and Rome, including the master programme Shooting from Inside with Lina Pallotta at Officine Fotografiche and the OpenSpine workshop with Michela Palermo and Funzilla.

His work has appeared in exhibitions and collective projects in Berlin, London, Pittsburgh, Rome and Naples. Publishing remains another important language in his practice: a photograph can live on a wall, but a book lets it travel from hand to hand.

Learning

Pigrecoemme in Naples, Officine Fotografiche in Rome and independent workshops centred on documentary language, sequencing and experimental publishing.

Selected exhibitions

Projects shown through BBA Gallery Berlin, Photocopy Club London, 15MinutesArt Pittsburgh and independent art spaces in Rome and Naples.
