A musician's press set should give editors usable choices: recognisable portraits, flexible orientations and clear credits. Include an expressive image without making every file difficult to place.

Which files bookers and journalists request
An electronic press kit benefits from a clear portrait, a horizontal option and a vertical option with enough space for layout. For a band, include an image in which every member is recognisable. Supply filenames, the artist name and the required photographer credit together. Ask the recipient about dimensions instead of sending a folder of unrelated crops.
Why a clean option belongs beside experimental images
An experimental image can express the sound or identity of a project, while a simpler portrait makes a small event listing easier to read. Both can belong in the same set. Test the photographs at thumbnail size and in black-and-white if print publicity is expected. A visually exciting frame is less useful if essential faces disappear when the layout is reduced.
How release artwork affects the session
If the shoot also serves an album or single, share the cover layout and release concept beforehand. Artwork may need more negative space or a different level of abstraction than a press portrait. Confirm permitted uses, delivery timing and credits before sending files to promoters. Keep the current press set clearly labelled so an old line-up is not circulated accidentally.
Practical checklist
- Share music, artwork, performances or references
- Define where the photographs will appear
- Bring a small number of meaningful outfits or objects
- Separate essential press images from experimental ideas
