A film roll arrives as a closed promise. Our work is to turn that promise into a stable negative without forcing every emulsion through the same anonymous recipe.
Intake begins before chemistry
We identify the film, requested process, shooting ISO, push or pull instructions, format and any known camera or exposure issue. Clear information prevents avoidable decisions later.
Loading and preparation
Film is loaded onto clean dry reels in complete darkness. Tanks, volumes, working solutions, timers and temperatures are prepared for the exact batch.
Development is documented
We choose a suitable black-and-white developer and follow a controlled time, temperature and agitation routine.
- Process changes are intentional, not improvised.
- Chemistry capacity is tracked.
- Unusual or damaged films are handled separately when needed.
Fixing, washing and drying
After stop and fixing, negatives are washed, given an appropriate final rinse and hung in a controlled drying area. Clean handling here protects the work already done.
Inspection before scanning
Dry negatives are checked for density, frame spacing, physical damage and development marks. Scanning is then approached as interpretation of the negative, not a replacement for it.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Sending a pushed film without stating the shooting ISO.
- Assuming scan contrast tells the whole story of development.
- Discarding negatives after download.
- Treating dust removal as a substitute for clean handling.
