Berlin Photo Studio is entering a new season with more than new objects on the shelves. During August, we worked on the structure around the objects: how a camera reaches a photographer, how a roll comes back to the laboratory, how someone can learn the process and how the final image can become a print rather than remaining only a file.
The shop is growing, but the direction remains small, practical and human. We do not want to become a catalogue where everything looks available but nothing has a story. We want each new product or service to have a clear place in the analogue workflow.
A reusable camera that comes back instead of becoming waste
One of the clearest examples is our new Reusable 35mm Camera. We recover simple point-and-shoot camera bodies, prepare them for another cycle and hand-load them in Berlin with 36 exposures.
There are three versions: 400D daylight colour film, 500T tungsten-balanced cinema film and Double-X 5222 black-and-white cinema film. The camera is simple, focus-free and equipped with a flash. When the roll is finished, the camera can return to us for the correct development process and another cycle of use.
The idea is not that a recycled object becomes precious because it is perfect. Its value is that it continues moving. Small cosmetic differences are part of its history.
New film cameras, with a slower and clearer pre-order process
We are also building a larger film-camera catalogue. It includes compact cameras, professional SLR systems, rangefinders and medium-format cameras. Some cameras will be available directly; others will be offered through pre-order.
The first complete example is the Nikon F3 with Nikkor 50mm f/1.4. It is sourced after purchase and inspected before delivery. A pre-order takes longer than picking a camera from a warehouse, but it allows us to search for the right kit and check the shutter, meter, film transport, battery compartment, lens and optics.
Many additional Canon, Contax, Minolta, Fujica, Mamiya and Voigtländer listings are currently being prepared. We will not announce those models as available until price, condition, sourcing time and inspection notes are complete.
Darkroom chemistry joins the shop
Photographers who develop black-and-white film at home can now find selected chemistry through Berlin Photo Studio. The first group includes ADOX Rodinal, ADOX HC-110 Pro, ILFORD ILFOTEC DD-X and ADOX ADOFLO II wetting agent.
These products do different jobs. Rodinal is valued for acutance and clearly defined grain. DD-X aims for fine grain, useful film speed and a broad tonal scale. HC-110 Pro offers concentrated, economical processing with flexible dilution. ADOFLO II belongs to the final rinse and helps film dry with fewer water marks.
When an item is not physically in stock, the product page explains the special-order time. We prefer to state the waiting time clearly rather than make the shelf appear fuller than it is.
Wine & Darkroom: the complete process in one experience
Our new Wine & Darkroom workshop moves through the entire black-and-white process: shooting, hand development, contact sheet, enlarger, test strips and a handmade silver-gelatin print.
The workshop is private and arranged after booking. It can be experienced alone, as a couple or with a small group. Wine is part of the relaxed atmosphere, not a requirement; a non-alcoholic alternative is always available.
Photography services for movement and live work
The studio has also added two professional services: dancer portrait photography and performance photography in Berlin.
These services are built around movement, timing and the space between control and surprise. A dancer portrait must show technique without turning the person into a diagram. A live-performance photograph must preserve atmosphere without interrupting the performance itself.
The knowledge library is becoming a learning path
During the last month we also rebuilt the educational side of the website. Existing Film Knowledge articles were expanded, given clearer search titles, connected through internal links and organised around beginner questions, film problems, processing, scanning and camera choice.
Three larger guides now form the beginning of a learning path: how to learn photography, how to start analogue photography and essential film-photography steps.
PolaWalk: the September chapter
The latest PolaWalk took place on 12 September 2026, beginning at Safelight Berlin and finishing at Berlin Photo Studio. Thank you to everyone who shared the route, cameras and photographs.
The event has ended and bookings are closed. The next date will be announced soon on the PolaWalk page and on Instagram. September participants can submit their photographs through the fanzine open call by 12 October 2026.
What comes next
September will continue the same direction: more carefully prepared cameras, the next PolaWalk chapter, new workshops and a stronger connection between the shop, laboratory, studio and learning programme.

Why these changes belong together
A camera, a bottle of developer, a workshop and a community walk can look like separate parts of a shop. For us, they belong to the same circle. The camera begins the image. Film carries it. Chemistry reveals it. Scanning or printing gives it a form that can be shared. Workshops make the process understandable, while events give people a reason to practise it together.
This is also why we are careful about expanding too quickly. A larger catalogue is useful only when the information around it remains clear. We need to know which process belongs to each film, what a pre-order actually promises, how long preparation takes and where a beginner can learn the next step.
The shop is therefore not growing away from the laboratory. It is growing outward from the laboratory. The knowledge we gain by seeing thousands of negatives helps us choose what to sell, what to teach and what questions a product page should answer before a customer reaches the counter.
The work will keep changing as the season develops. New cameras will become public only when their listings are complete, event dates will be confirmed through their own pages, and shop availability may move between direct stock and special order.
