Prepare the intended use, a few clothing options and any employer requirements before your headshot session. You do not need to arrive with a rehearsed expression.

What to do the day before
Prepare two clean outfits, check the fit and pack them on hangers. Tell the photographer where the image will be used and send any employer specifications beforehand. Avoid making unfamiliar styling changes immediately before the session. Arrive with enough time to settle in; a rushed arrival often creates more difficulty than any small clothing imperfection.
How to handle glasses and reflections
If you normally wear glasses, bring them clean and ready. Reflections can often be managed by changing light position or the angle between camera and face. Removing glasses solely for the photograph may make the portrait less recognisable. Bring a spare pair if available, and mention tinted or photochromic lenses when discussing an outdoor session.
Why expression practice should stay natural
Think about how you want to meet the viewer: open, thoughtful, assured or approachable. You do not need to memorise a smile. Small changes in breathing, posture and gaze can produce variety without forcing an expression. Review a few test frames together so you can say what feels natural and what does not before the main selection is made.
