Technically, some ECN-2 films can produce an image in C-41 chemistry, but the result and workflow differ from the intended process.
Remjet must still be handled correctly. C-41 chemistry can change contrast, colour and dye behaviour.
How to recognise it
The film remains an ECN-2-designed stock even if a reseller says it can be cross-processed. Check whether remjet was removed.
Why it matters
A standard lab may refuse remjet film because contamination can affect other customers’ work.
Before sending the film
- Confirm remjet status
- Ask the lab before ordering
- Expect a different look
- Do not hide the film type
- Use ECN-2 for the intended response
Frequently asked questions
Can the process be changed after development?
No. Development is irreversible, so identify the film and communicate special requests first.
Does scanning replace correct development?
No. Scanning interprets the developed image but cannot restore layers damaged or omitted during processing.
Where can I order the correct service?
Use our Film Development Guide to identify C-41, ECN-2, black-and-white, E-6 and Scala services.
