Look for “ECN-2,” motion-picture stock codes such as 5203, 5207, 5213 or 5219, and information about remjet.
Respooled cinema film can carry a custom label, so the reseller’s documentation may be more useful than the cassette design.
How to recognise it
Kodak Vision3 50D, 250D, 200T and 500T are common examples. Some modified stocks have remjet removed and may be marketed for C-41, which must be stated clearly.
Why it matters
Traditional remjet-backed film requires removal before normal processing. Putting it into unsuitable equipment can contaminate chemistry and machinery.
Before sending the film
- Keep the product link or packaging
- Note the original stock number
- Confirm whether remjet was removed
- State the ISO used
- Choose a lab offering real ECN-2 processing
Frequently asked questions
Can the process be changed after development?
No. Development is irreversible, so identify the film and communicate special requests first.
Does scanning replace correct development?
No. Scanning interprets the developed image but cannot restore layers damaged or omitted during processing.
Where can I order the correct service?
Use our Film Development Guide to identify C-41, ECN-2, black-and-white, E-6 and Scala services.
