Lorenzo Scutti describes his photographic approach with a simple tension: being invisible to the subject while remaining completely present in the moment. That quiet attention shapes both his images and his work with people at Berlin Photo Studio.
Present, but not interrupting
Lorenzo is an Italian photographer living in Berlin. He tries to observe a scene without forcing it to perform for the camera. The goal is not to disappear emotionally, but to avoid breaking the moment he wants to photograph.

This approach is especially important in his project IMPETO, which documents contemporary dance. Movement cannot be repeated in exactly the same way, so the photographer has to anticipate, stay responsive and respect the energy already present in the room.
How did Lorenzo join Berlin Photo Studio?
Lorenzo contacted Emiliano directly and joined the team in May. His experience with an online shop for vintage cameras and film connected naturally with the studio’s camera sales and customer-facing work.
Inside Berlin Photo Studio, he supports customer service, camera sales and scan conversion. Those responsibilities require the same habit as his photography: look carefully, listen first and understand what is actually needed before acting.
The camera that opened the door
The Olympus Trip 35 remains Lorenzo’s favourite analogue camera because of its design and simplicity. More importantly, it was the camera that first made him curious about film photography.
His current combination is a Nikon FE2 with a 24mm lens. The wide field of view forces him to think about every part of the frame, while black-and-white film removes colour as an easy way of organising attention.

Lorenzo chooses Fomapan for its versatility and processes it with a standard black-and-white workflow. A flexible film stock is useful when the subject can move between street observation, documentary moments and performance.
For him, working wide in black and white is a discipline. It makes composition more deliberate because the frame contains more information and every relationship between subject, background and empty space becomes visible.

A person choosing a first camera does not always need the most expensive model. They need a camera they understand and will actually carry. Lorenzo’s background with vintage equipment helps him translate technical differences into practical choices.
