Background
From systems to the darkroom.
Before committing more fully to photography and darkroom work, Mengfan Yang spent almost eight years as a product manager in technology, working at TikTok, Uber and Mobike.
She grew up practising Chinese calligraphy. Its attention to gesture, rhythm, empty space and repetition continues to shape the way she sees and works with images.

At Berlin Photo Studio, Mengfan works across film development, DSLR/macro scanning and darkroom printing. The role combines technical precision with interpretation: reading the negative, understanding what it can hold and translating it without imposing a single artificial look.
Developing another person’s film means handling photographs that may be experiments, professional work or irreplaceable family memories. Care and consistency are therefore not finishing touches; they are part of the process from the beginning.
